For a third consecutive year, St James United Church is hosting a multi-hour mega-concert, uniting over a hundred performers under the motto “A Night of Art at St James”, aiming to democratize art and make it accessible to all. The event attracts over 3,000 people annually, who come to explore what the venue and artists have to offer.
By bringing together a wide range of artists, the concert illustrates the richness and diversity of early and contemporary popular music, which encompasses influences ranging from 16th century drinking songs, through rock to jazz, electronica, world music, organ arrangements of film music, and more.
This type of event also allows for the cross-referencing of genres and the transcendence of artistic boundaries, a central aspect of today’s pop culture. The extended duration of an interaction between artists and the sharing of unique experiences creates a festive atmosphere, essential to pop culture, where community and collective pleasure are paramount. We live the motto of St James “Everyone is welcome, all the time” through this marathon concert that celebrates both collaboration and diversity.
