Micheline Sylvestre
Micheline Sylvestre is a pioneer in the world of saffron in Quebec. In 1998, she purchased a farmhouse in Saint-Damien, Lanaudière, and gradually settled there over the years. In 2013, she heard a radio report about saffron and it was love at first sight. She enrolled in a training course on the cultivation and production of this spice and planted her first bulbs in 2014. Since then, Emporium Safran Québec, her company, has grown every year. She sells Crocus sativus bulbs across Canada, as well as saffron and its derivatives. She also offers her services as a consultant for the startup of saffron farms. She is also experimenting with saffron cultivation in Montreal, notably on the roof of the Esplanade Tranquille, and hopes to make the metropolis a reference for urban saffron.
A cultural journalist with Radio-Canada and TVA television news for 17 years, Alexandra is also a keen runner and Pilates instructor. Serving as the Montréal en Lumière spokesperson is a role perfectly suited to her boundless energy!
