Saturday, March 1st, at 7 p.m., Ingang Design Galerie - Belgo Espace no. 427, 372, Sainte-Catherine street West, Montreal
Conference hosted by artist-engineer Stéphane Lajoie with philosopher Alain Deneault, author Simon Paré-Poupart and postdoctoral researcher Thibault Biscahie on possible alternatives to reproduced neoliberal globalization divisions and inequalities question.
At a time when world's population large sections are excluded from the rich countries relative prosperity, while the West (and other industrialized countries) are withdrawing into a nationalist and reactionary insularity, the time has come to think of solutions other than those proposed by neoliberalism to the problems that this capitalist thinking has itself created.
How can we rethink the economy of nature, social relations and economic protectionism at a time when political and commercial dereliction situations are beginning to appear? In an artistic context, the INGANG gallery invites you to a discussion on alternatives to the dominant consumerist model and the perspectives of Quebec as a space that should allow, through crossbreeding, to build bridges between civilizations, languages and cultures.
The philosopher Alain Deneault presents a global portrait of contemporary globalization and possible solutions to escape it. Simon Paré-Poupart will focus his analysis on global waste trade to poor countries, garbage collection market immigrants integration, and garbage collectors/emptying workers status and role in Quebec society.
Finally, Thibault Biscahie suggests going beyond belligerent and biosphere-destructive protectionism models (“à la Trump”) and the equally biosphere-destructive and anti-democratic free-trade policies (such as European Commission) that are holding us in the middle.
Inaugurated in 2024, the gallery will be presenting artist-engineer Stéphane Lajoie works all winter, which consists of collages on Expo 67 lagoon bridges construction plans : a moment of optimism that made the Quebec metropolis a symbol of openness to the world.
