The second edition of the Nuit de la poésie (Poetry Night) will be both dazzling and compelling, resonating through Place des Arts’ indoor spaces: an event at which curious minds and night owls can discover powerful voices and varied worlds.
Conceived by poet and UQAM professor Marc André Brouillette, the evening will consist of three parts presented simultaneously: poetry readings, a choreographic marathon set to poetry, and the unveiling of a new media work.
The Nuit de la poésie will begin with Innu poet Joséphine Bacon, Elder in Residence at UQAM, and will continue with a veritable celebration of poetry over the next four hours. Accompanied by musician and UQAM lecturer Yves Léveillé, along with his musical ensemble, more than thirty poets from all generations and cultures will take part in the event, sharing their love of words. A choir, featuring artists from UQAM’s École supérieure de théâtre, will also be on hand for the evening.
In the Espace culturel Georges-Émile-Lapalme, the public will witness a marathon of choreographic improvisations set to the poetry of today. A magical moment in which words will make bodies dance, prompting new artistic convergences.
On the walls, a media work—designed especially for the event—will be displayed on the screen mosaic; a visual experience both rich and unique, combining poetry and environmental concerns.
For one night, the public is invited to an encounter that will be contrasting, ambulatory, and fleeting… where the pleasure of language will be shared in various forms.
