Presented by Art Matters Festival, Blurring the Border is an immersive evening that celebrates the voices of immigrant artists through performance art, video, installation, music, and dance. POP-UP performances will surprise and inspire throughout the night, transforming the space into a dynamic canvas where movement, sound, and visuals collide. These spontaneous acts blur the lines between artist and audience, inviting viewers to explore themes of identity, belonging, and resilience.
In today’s climate of rising anti-immigration sentiments, Blurring the Border seeks to bridge cultural divides and foster understanding through art and performance. The event creates a platform for dialogue, encouraging audiences to connect with the personal and collective narratives of immigrant journeys. Through participatory art forms, it emphasizes the transformative power of art in celebrating shared humanity and diverse cultural perspectives.
_______
Art Matters is North America’s largest student run arts festival that takes place every year in March. Since 2000, Art Matters has hosted exhibitions and events across Montreal creating platforms and opportunities for undergraduate artists studying at Concordia University.
This event will be kicking off a month-long program of art events across the city for the 25th edition of Art Matters Festival. In this commemorative year, our theme, Adapted Visions, encourages the exploration of art as a lens through which to examine the past, contextualize the present and envision the future. As we face ever mounting uncertainties, Art Matters invites you to consider imagining better futures as a radical act. By insisting upon the improved quality of our futures, we empower ourselves as agents of change. Being a part of Nuit blanche gives the opportunity for emerging artists to POP out of campus and POP onto the scene.
