Samy Benabed, winner of the 2023 Laurier Award for Revelation of the Year and executive chef/co-owner of Auberge St-Mathieu, honors us with a visit to the Village Gourmand to present a unique and exclusive culinary demonstration.


Samy Benabed

Samy Benabed is a renowned chef who has worked in some of the best restaurants in the Montreal area (La salle à manger, Hôtel Herman, Chez l'épicier, Le Mousso). A jack-of-all-trades, he draws inspiration from his surroundings, his travels, and his passions. Denmark has greatly influenced his cuisine. There, he learned to reinvent, to create according to his own rules. It was at the Relæ restaurant in Copenhagen – which was ranked for three years in the World's 50 Best Restaurants – that his creativity developed.

With the purchase of the Auberge Saint-Mathieu, Samy now has, with his partners, a space for creation and discovery where he can express himself freely. This exceptional place constitutes a significant anchor point that he aims to transform into a hub of boreal gastronomy, in the heart of nature and close to his partner producers.


Maxim Guillemette

Maxim and Samy have been collaborating in the kitchen since their early days at Chez l'Épicier. After a stint at Mr&Mme, Maxim was sous-chef at Iberico, then head chef at Majestique. What testifies to her immense generosity is that she first came to Saint-Mathieu to lend us a hand with the dishes during the launch of the Auberge project. Today, she runs the kitchen as head chef at Auberge Saint-Mathieu!


John Mike

Jean-Michel Leblond is a Montreal-based chef whose career has been rapidly growing following his recent television appearances. He won the first season of *"Chef de bois,"* broadcast on VRAI and ZESTE, captivating his social media followers with his original recipes and dynamic personality. With over 15 years of experience leading several restaurants, he also stood out in TVA's flagship show, *"Sortez-moi d'ici,"* in the spring of 2023. His first television project as the main host has been airing since August 2024 on ZESTE, exploring the fascinating behind-the-scenes aspects of his life beyond the kitchen. You can follow his culinary adventures on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.
A long-time music enthusiast, he fulfilled his dream by releasing his first single, *"Good to the Bone,"* in April 2024, and his debut EP on August 9th!
In addition to television, music, and social media, Jean-Michel invites himself into your kitchen with the release of his very first cookbook. Discover authentic recipes inspired by the flavors of every season, elevated with his best sauces and marinades to cook *à la John Mike*.
